Gamifying the Classroom

About this project

The client requested dynamic activities in their instructor-led courses. Since our team knew this group as a bunch of highly competitive learners, gamification was a no-brainer. We incorporated various game elements into several different courses, making sure each game was aligned to the learning outcomes. Types of activities included online quizzes (Kahoot!), LEGO activities, custom board games, song parodies, and card games. These game-based elements served a variety of purposes in the course, such as knowledge checks, hands-on application of problem solving and collaboration skills, team building opportunities, time management exercises, role play activities, and memorization aids. I had a blast designing and piloting these games, and received feedback from learners that they were unexpected and as such, highly effective and memorable.
